A new home means a fresh start, so spend some time to recycle all those things you don't really need!
1. Old towels and linen
Get a clean start in your new digs by ditching worn out towels ans sheets. Animal shelters and rescue centers are always on the lookout for these so they'll be put to very good use.
2. Unworn clothes
Save precious closet space by recycling those outfits you never wear. Try taking clean, ironed clothes to a consignment shop, and when they sell them you'll get some cash back.
3. Space filler furniture
We've all done this in the past, bought an item of furniture to fill a space, so now's the time to liberate yourself! Don't cram old furniture into your new home, and make sure all the furniture you're taking with you fits nicely. Anything you don't take can usually be easily sold, or handed to charity stores.
4. Cords and Cables
It seems like we all have a drawer or box filled with odd cables. Sort through them, get rid of duplicates as well as any that don't fit anything. There are over 9,800 recycling centers in the US, so make use of them! Remember, in some states you can be fined for putting recycling in with the regular trash.
5. Paperwork
Keep all important financial documents. Most everything else can be shredded and then recycled. Also consider scanning documents and just keeping electronic copies if you're not required to retain the original paper copy.
And remember, if you've not used something for a year or more you probably never will use it, so challenge yourself and be a little bit ruthless!
